According to Maiuri, this was a small “den” under the stairs in VI.10, leading to the upper terraces of the edifice.

Whereas according to Guidobaldi, this small room with black mosaic with inserts of polychrome marble was the original entrance vestibule to the women’s baths. This was then transformed into an independent shop, by the closing of the aperture between this room and the room of the apodyterium.
